Invisalign Clear Braces

Over the years, adults have increasingly sought out orthodontic care. While some adult patients don’t mind the time-intensive, lifestyle impacting traditional bracket and wire braces systems, our Millis, MA dentist offers a more discrete, comfortable, and time saving alternative: Invisalign clear braces. Rather than metal brackets and wires, Invisalign shifts teeth into the ideal position using a series of clear, plastic alignment trays. Each set of aligners represents a step closer to the final alignment goal. Over the course of about two weeks, consistent pressure applied by the aligners shifts teeth into this new spot. Once teeth have reached this stage in alignment, the trays are exchanged for the next set in the series. Over the course of 10 to 18 months, patients’ smiles are shifted into proper alignment saving patients time overall compared with traditional braces, and because they require fewer checkups, Invisalign treatment requires less time from patients throughout care. The removable trays make it possible for patients to maintain their regular oral hygiene routine and diet throughout treatment.

Porcelain Veneers

Patients with chips, cracks, and stains that accumulated over time may feel overwhelmed at the thought of numerous restorative, cosmetic, or orthodontic treatments necessary to renew the appearance of their smiles. Luckily, patients at Main Street Dental offer another solution: porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain that fit over the front surfaces of teeth effectively concealing any number of smile flaws. These sheaths resemble egg shells, and are custom crafted to repair any number of irregularities including gaps, stains, chips, breaks, and more with minimally invasive treatments. By removing a small amount of surface enamel, veneers lay in line with the patient’s natural smile, and are cemented into place. Veneers allow patients to hit the reset button on even the most worn smiles.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

The most popular cosmetic treatment option may be teeth whitening, and it’s impossible to walk down the toothpaste aisle at the local pharmacy without finding dozens of products offering dramatic results. However, these products typically are unable to deliver the smile brightening solutions they promise. With professional at-home teeth whitening, we offer patients truly dramatic results up to ten shades brighter over the course of several weeks of consistent application. Our custom application trays paired with professional grade whitening gel lead to brilliant smiles for years to come.

Tooth Colored Fillings

For decades, patients relied on metal-colored amalgam fillings to repair decayed and damaged teeth. These fillings, while they adequately restored damaged teeth, didn’t look the most appealing. The silver or grey colored fillings leave a noticeable mark on patients’ smiles, and require the removal of healthy dental structure to place the filling. Sometimes referred to as indirect fillings, amalgam restorations are crafted outside the mouth and fitted into place using dental grade cement. Over time, this cement may break down causing teeth to further decay or allowing the filling to shift within the tooth leading to additional damage.

Tooth colored fillings are crafted from a material known as composite resin. Once damaged or decayed enamel is removed, this glass and plastic mixture is applied directly to the damaged tooth. The putty like consistency makes it possible for the dentist to mold the material into position directly restoring the lost shape and structure of teeth. Once the composite resin filling is in place and molded to fit within patients’ smiles, an LED curing light is applied to the mixture hardening it into position. For years, dentists preferred the long lasting durability possible with amalgam fillings to the less sturdy composite resin filling material. However, with today’s high quality materials and techniques and proper care, composite resin fillings should last as long as amalgam filling materials.

In recent years, dentists have even started to harness the quality restorations possible with tooth-colored filling material to correct cosmetic concerns. Sometimes referred to as cosmetic bonding, the use of composite resin to correct small chips, cracks, and gaps in teeth and conceal discolorations and other cosmetic flaws allows our team to give patients picture-perfect smiles with minimal removal of natural dental structure. With similar results compared to porcelain veneers, cosmetic dental bonding provides beautiful smiles, but if patients determine that they dislike the appearance, bonding can typically be reversed.

All-Ceramic Restorations

In the past, patients relied on gold, metal, or porcelain bonded to metal crowns, inlays, onlays, and other restorations to restore damaged smiles. While these options fully renewed the form and function of patients’ decayed teeth, they exchanged appearance for function. Dr. Adler and his Millis, MA dental team recommend all-ceramic restorations to provide the best of both worlds: optimal functional restoration and cosmetic appearance. Porcelain bonded to metal restorations have similar cosmetic appeal, but may form metal colored bands over time. All-ceramic restorations reflect light the same way that natural tooth enamel does closely mimicking the appearance. The high quality, dental grade ceramic and precisely fitted custom solution means all-ceramic restorations are long lasting. With proper care, all-ceramic restorative options last as long as metal alternatives.
